On July 3, the Overseas Support and Assistance Building (BSAOM) Dumont d'Urville boarded a sailboat suspected of illicit trafficking in narcotics.

The intervention took place in the northeast of Guadeloupe, on the high seas. When the BSAOM teams boarded the sailboat, they observed bales in the cabin of the sailboat. Their contents tested positive for cocaine.

The two individuals present on the ship were placed under measures of restriction and deprivation of liberty by the captain of the Dumont d'Urville.

Three days later, on the instructions of the public prosecutor and the specialized interregional jurisdiction (JIRS) of Fort-de-France, the narcotics, the sailboat and the defendants were handed over to the Caribbean branch of the office. anti-narcotics (OFAST), based at Fort Saint-Louis.

Referred to the prosecution on Friday July 8, the two defendants were placed in pre-trial detention at the Ducos penitentiary center by the JIRS correctional court in Fort-de-France pending their judgment.

The 445 kg of cocaine intercepted, probably destined for Europe, represent a loss of more than 13 million euros if the product had arrived at its destination.

This new dragnet carried out by the sailors of the Dumont d'Urville, in very difficult sea conditions, brings to 6 the number of seizures made in 2022 by the Armed Forces in the West Indies.

This brings more than one ton of cannabis and 1,1 tons of cocaine already intercepted. _AF
