Narcotrafic: 210 kilos of cocaine seized by the Ventôse on a sailboat in the east of Saint Lucia

The surveillance frigate, the Ventôse des Forces Armées aux Antilles (FAA) seized 210 kilos of cocaine and arrested two suspected drug traffickers on a sailboat located to the east of the island of Saint Lucia. The operation took place on the night of April 15 to 16, 2021.

On the instruction of the prosecution of the specialized interregional jurisdiction of Fort-de-France, the Ventôse handed over the two suspected drug traffickers as well as the ship to the Anti-Narcotics Office which ensured the continuation of the investigations. After a thorough search, 210 kilos of cocaine were discovered in caches arranged in the structure of the sailboat.

At the end of their police custody, the two men (a 43-year-old Estonian and a 64-year-old Latvian), were presented on April 23 to a JIRS investigating magistrate in Fort-de-France. They were indicted on charges of drug trafficking in an organized gang, participation in a criminal association. Both were remanded in custody. They face a sentence of 30 years of criminal imprisonment.

This seizure represents a loss of over 6 million euros for drug traffickers. Since the beginning of the year, the Armed Forces in the West Indies have seized more than 5 tonnes of cocaine!
