The other Caribbean islands: Dominica has banned plastic!

0

The island nation becomes the first country in the world to have banned straws, plastic cutlery and polystyrene containers that are so harmful to the environment.

The island of Dominica, located between Guadeloupe and Martinique prides itself on being the island of nature, this island nation of 70 inhabitants had already taken initiatives to preserve the authentic beauty of its environment; in order to further engage in its ecotourism approach, it has taken an ambitious step by banning all plastic and polystyrene containers and single-use food utensils.

This decision builds on an earlier initiative to restrict imports of non-biodegradable containers in order to reduce their flow to stores and restaurants.

"We need to deserve and reflect our nickname Natural Island and make it a reality, so we will continue to fight the management of solid waste that affects our environment," said Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit.

Thanks to this concrete act of combating plastic pollution on the planet but also to preserve the famous natural and lush landscape of the island, Dominica is becoming a source of inspiration for the rest of the world. While Saint-Martin offers a distressing visual spectacle with its disproportionate problem of waste and large bulky items littering the grounds, the approaches to roads and the outskirts of public trash cans, Dominica becomes the example to follow!
