Aline Hanson school learns computer programming

As part of mathematics week, Wednesday March 15, 2017, the teachers of the Aline Hanson school proposed activities to introduce their students to programming.

Seven classes, ie around 175 students, participated in workshops coordinated by the school's PRM (Mathematics Resource Person), in the person of Leslie Lumon. All the students enjoyed these new activities.

“Introducing students to programming is not intended to make future programmers but to teach computer thinking. We must help our students and future cyber-citizens to understand the world according to the approach used in programming and to approach problem solving in mathematics, in another way in line with the digital world ”underlines Jean-Luc Elice , educational advisor in charge of mathematics.

The introduction to programming is an important novelty in the school's new programs. It is in line with the objectives of the common base of knowledge, skills and culture.

He knows the basic principles of algorithms and the design of computer programs. It implements them to create simple applications. For teachers from CP to CM2, it is a question of starting work which will be continued in college.

We note that the digital tablets were loaned by the riding of the Northern Islands as part of mathematics week. Aline Hanson School hopes to one day have its own tablets to continue this work with the students of Sandy-Ground.

The Education Department thanks the teachers of the seven participating classes, Lumon Leslie, the activities coordinator, and the school principal who contributed to the success of this morning. _AF
