The French Tourist Office and the Dutch Tourist Office participated jointly from February 7 to 10, in the Brussels Holiday Fair, a gathering for the general public, essential in Europe. Over 100 travel enthusiasts flocked to gather information on their next vacation, to get inspired and come up with new ideas.

Belgium represents a potential of twelve million inhabitants, grouped into three linguistic groups (Dutch, French and German). The majority speak Dutch, followed very closely by French, German concerns only 1% of the population. The Belgians have a strong link with the Netherlands and France, historically and culturally. This population, which has a high purchasing power, represents a very important market for the island of Saint-Martin.

Belgians are looking for very specific, detailed and not general information, this population travels a lot, they are used to family vacations and short stays. They are sensitive to solidarity tourism and like to give meaning to their trips. Nearly half of them, wish to discover or rediscover the charms of Saint-Martin, despite the obstacle that may still constitute the 2017 disaster.

The representatives, on this fair, of the French and Dutch Tourist Offices, who are respectively, Olivier LOUIS and Gianira ARRINDEL, met Belgian tour operators (Thomas Cook, Rainbow), specialized in the marketing of the Caribbean islands. They presented the overall offer of the island, in terms of infrastructure and reported on renovations and new features. The purpose of these meetings is to find our tourist products, included in the programming of tour operators and highlighted in their brochures for the next season.

Convinced of the importance and influence of the media, as travel advisers, the two Tourist Offices organized a press trip, in partnership with Star Clipper. In fact, five Belgian journalists will be in Saint-Martin this month to promote the destination in several media representative of the linguistic diversity of Belgium, such as La Libre, Sud presse, Gazet Antwerpen.
