Camille Galap, the rector of the Guadeloupe Academy, came to Saint-Martin on Friday January 19 to present his wishes to teachers, school heads and school directors, staff, Saint Martin's education service and Saint-Barthélemy, as well as representatives of the COM and the prefecture.

"It has become a ritual and I hope it will continue because we have a great attachment to the Northern Islands", he assured in the introduction to a brief ceremony which took place at the CCISM.

“The year 2017 will remain etched in our memories. […] ”He underlined before adding:“ The restoration of the buildings continues. I know that time seems long but I ask everyone to be patient and to remain confident. […] Each passing day brings us closer to life before. ” Despite this, the challenge of national education remains the same: to lead exam classes and everyone else to success. "I have no doubts about the collective capacity to take up the challenge," he said.

The rector wishes, in 2018, “to place educational policy at the crossroads of all public policies”, in particular in terms of the fight against dropping out of school and illiteracy, as well as for inclusive school, mixed education, gender equality. He announced the continuation of the systems already in place, including, among others:

• Duplication of CP classes in REP and REP + and CE1 in REP +

• Schooling for children under 3 (for which he welcomes the two COMs)

• Mastery of the language in middle school: pupils in difficulty benefit from two hours of AP (personalized assistance)

• The homework done program: since the start of the 2017 All Saints holidays, schoolchildren are offered, in their establishment, an accompanied study time to carry out their homework

• The policy in favor of bilingual classes, the experimentation of which started in 2016 and which today concerns 14 classes, ie more than 300 students. "The objective is to perpetuate the system to offer, in the long term, bilingual education from kindergarten to the final year," he insisted.

• The ban on mobile phones in schools and colleges, desired by the Ministry of Education for the start of the 2018 school year, already applied by several directors of schools and establishments in the North Islands
