On November 7, the governor of Sint Maarten, Eugene Holiday, asked Franklin Meyers, leader of the United Peoples Party, to form an interim government before December 4.

Eugene Holiday asked that the interim government be supported by the largest majority in Parliament to ensure political stability, that it act in the interests of the people of St Maarten and that be dedicated to reconstruction of the territory. Among other things, the interim government will have to draw up a development plan, sign the financial partnership with the Netherlands, cooperate with the social partners in the reconstruction of St Maarten, revise the 2018 budget, implement the border control conditions imposed by the Netherlands, set up the Integrity Chamber according to the protocol with Holland.

Pending the announcement of the interim government, William Marlin remains Prime Minister.

The Dutch elections are scheduled for February 26, 2018 and the new Parliament will be sworn in on April 2.
