The Faxinfo has tested for you… The Wasabi Charlie

0

Wednesday evening, we went to enjoy a quite extraordinary show. Dinner at the teppanyaki tables at Wasabi Charlie in Simpson Bay.

But let's go back to the story from the beginning. It all starts with a terribly sweet and friendly welcome. Here, even when there are people, it seems to take its time. We stop, we exchange a few words and we care about how the evening is going. There is almost no need to issue a request as the team is used to meeting its customers. The atmosphere of the restaurant is frankly relaxed and the outfit is perfect, you feel good. So these tables !? We were two but we can install a good group around these tables designed to offer you a real moment of conviviality.

The perfect place to relaxand feast your taste buds!

Before the show itself, we tasted rolls of maki sushi. Ours were vegan because in the team we have one. Suffice to say that even without meat or fish, the rolls were tasty. And then Miguel arrives. He was our chef for dinner. He has many years of cooking experience and has been a teppanyaki specialist for 14 years. When he starts playing with his utensils, we stop everything we were doing! Do you remember the movie Cocktail with Tom Cruise as a virtuoso bartender?

Miguel, it's the same story with spatulas and spikes! The only thing he didn't try for us was the blindfolded knife throwing! The preparation of the meal is a show. Your chef presents all the ingredients, fresh of course. He explains what he is going to do with it and then he starts to oil his plate. Let the show begin ! He throws in turn all the elements that will make up your plate on the plate, arranges them, seasons them, makes them fly above the crackling plate, all with a smile and a little joke that goes well. And then, the highlight of the show ... we had chosen a vegan plate, based on tofu and a second with salmon, shrimps and scallops. After carefully preparing these elements, Miguel sets them on fire. A pure moment of magic. The flame is imposing but under control, there is clearly no risk but it impresses. A family passing by even stopped to attend the show and left, thanking the chef for the show. Before we even tasted the food, our eyes had feasted. After letting the temperature drop but not the enthusiasm, Miguel served us two plates nicely garnished with various vegetables, a delicious grilled rice, decorated with egg if you wish and a set of flambé fish and tofu . For the taste buds, right on target, once again! It's tasty and cooked just right. And to get all this across, we chose to accompany the meal with a Japanese beer.

The difference ? It is made from rice. It is light and without bitterness, very pleasant to taste and refreshing. In summary, the next time you want to feast, travel and attend a show without having to go around the island, go to Wasabi Charlie. The only criticism that we have found is that the plates are really generous. But even then, they had an answer, we came home with lunch on Thursday! _NB
