It was obviously at the Ehpad Bethany Home that the inauguration of this blue week took place yesterday, which honors the third and fourth generations, as part of the celebration of the national week of retirees and the elderly, from October 3 to 8, 2022.
Launched in 1951 by order of the Ministry of Public Health and Population with the mission of organizing a national quest with the aim of raising funds to help the most needy elders 6 years after the end of the Second World War, the week blue has seen its semantics evolve over the years: "Day of the Elderly", "National Week of the Elderly", and “National Week for Retired Persons and the Elderly and their Associations” to stop, at the beginning of the 90s, at “Blue Week”. A new title accompanied by this slogan: 365 days to act, 7 days to say it. This particular week for the elderly is a special time to inform and raise awareness about the contribution of retirees to economic, social and cultural life, without forgetting the concerns and difficulties encountered by the third and fourth generations. This event organized by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin, represented at the inauguration by Louis Mussington, its president, and Martine Beldor, member of the executive council of the COM and of the board of directors of the Ehpad Bethany Home, is the opportunity for all the actors who work regularly with the elderly, to organize events throughout the week which help to create links between generations by inviting the general public to become aware of the place and social role played by elders in our society. Surrounded by Audrey Gil, territorial councilor and president of the Ehpad, the two deputy directors Xavier Bilate and Slimane Boussekhane, Louis Musington sang the anthem of Saint-Martin with Fabien Gumbs in main voice and the residents of the Ehpad Bethany Home gathered on the terrace of the establishment. During his inauguration speech in English and then in French, the president "welcomed the good energies behind this initiative which is an opportunity to honor the people who have contributed to the development of Saint-Martin and to thank them for their commitment. We have a moral obligation to celebrate this moment, you deserve it. “Louis Mussington then promised that a new nursing home “worthy of the name” would be built by the end of his term of office and that the steps have been taken with the services concerned. Audrey Gil, president of the current establishment, confirms the urgency of having a new structure that can best meet the needs of the elderly and improve their living conditions for a right to deserved rest. “Aging well” concerns the entire population of Saint-Martin. Another point underlined during Louis Mussington's speech was the importance "of working with the older generation so that they can pass on their knowledge to young people, by facilitating exchanges between those who are leaving and those who are arriving so that the next generation can ensured and preserve our identity and our existence as a people. A celebratory breakfast was then distributed to the residents of the Ehpad in the company of the officials.
1er “blue” workshop at the CCISM
After the official inauguration of Blue Week at the Bethany Home nursing home, the festivities continued at the CCISM at 9:30 a.m. with workshops offered by several structures including Saint Martin Santé, the Académie des Métiers, the Pôle Solidarité & Familles COM DAP , the CGSS (social security) and the Manteau de Saint-Martin. Information, well-being and makeover stands, Qi Gong workshop, manicure, pedicure, make-up, adapted physical activities, musical entertainment by Benjamin of the Gunslingers Steel Band, everything was planned to honor the elderly who also took advantage of a magnificent buffet prepared by Heritage Kitchen. For this first morning of Blue Week organized by Délencia Patrick, Project Manager for the Deputy Director General of the Solidarity and Families Delegation, the activities at the CCISM were animated with panache by master of ceremonies Ricky the Fox. _VX
