St. Maarten Police issue final warning to reckless scooter riders

St. Maarten KPSM Police will no longer tolerate scooter riders who use St. Maarten roads recklessly, endangering the lives of other road users and causing damage to public and private property.

If scooter riders choose to ignore safety and traffic rules, they will suffer the consequences of the law when they are pulled over by the police.

Recklessly behaving scooter riders will be stopped by the police and their scooters will be impounded.

In recent months, several warnings about reckless driving of scooters have been issued by the police. The latest warning comes as authorities have seen a recent increase in the number of young people recklessly riding scooters on busy streets.

Scooter riders have become more brazen and callous. They seem to take great pleasure in slipping between the other vehicles, honking their horns. It is obvious that these scooter riders have no regard for traffic rules and no respect for other road users.

The traffic department of the police has had to deal with several serious accidents involving scooters over the past week. Scooter drivers and passengers were seriously injured in several of these crashes. Police urge all scooter and motorcycle riders and passengers to wear helmets.

Most scooter accidents are caused by the upsurge in risky behavior by some scooter riders.
