“The role of wetlands in disaster reduction” is the theme of the 2017 edition of the World Wetlands Days. Overseas also takes part in it through a whole series of events until the end of the month. The program is published by the “Pôle Relais Zones Humides Tropicales”. The opportunity to (re) discover the mangrove in Saint-Martin, especially on the discovery trail of the Barrière pond, in Cul-de-Sac. The members of the Natural Reserve recently welcomed students from the Mont des Accords College to discuss the theme of wetlands. Mangroves “play a buffer role between the terrestrial and the marine environment by allowing filtration and retention of terrigenous sediments”. _EH
