JUSTICE: Fifteen months in prison for violence on the public highway

A 25-year-old youth, FA, was sentenced Friday by the Basse-Terre court to fifteen months in prison for violence.

The facts date back to February 19. At the end of the afternoon, a friend of FA wants to go wheeling with his motorcycle, a 450 cc, on the Terres Basses road, he offers to follow him to film it. On the return, the friend collides with a car which performs a maneuver to turn. According to FA, her friend is thrown several meters away.

Immediately, FA went to the motorist who, still according to him, had his cell phone in his hand. He goes to see him to accuse him of being on the phone and thus of causing the accident. In anger, FA grabbed the object from her. An altercation then begins between them. FA throws the phone which will be recovered on the ground by its owner, which annoys FA again. He does not appreciate that the driver cares more about his smartphone than his friend, still on the ground.

When the motorist leaves, FA joins his friend. He helps her up, but the motorcycle rider has difficulty walking. He also receives assistance from another individual who was riding a scooter behind the car; the scooter rider took FA's friend on his two-wheeler.

FA was taken into custody three weeks later. He admitted the facts he regretted. He said he acted out of anger; he only wanted to pick up the motorist's phone to pay for repairs to his friend's motorcycle that was not insured.

He was placed in pre-trial detention and transferred to Guadeloupe on March 12, then brought before the court for immediate appearance last Friday in Basse-Terre. His continued detention has been declared. Another six-month prison sentence was carried out. FA has already been convicted six times since 2012. (soualigapost.com)
