JUSTICE: "Distress" and "social misery" at the bar

The fourteen-year-old girl is "in a state of distress" according to the psychiatrist who examined her. At the end of October last year, she went to the gendarmerie to file a complaint against her mother: she accuses her of violently beating her.

The gendarmes open an investigation. The mother, ND, aged thirty-one, is heard and denies part of the allegations against her. However, she admits sometimes raising her hand on her daughter who "is aggressive and who does not obey" and with whom she has a conflicting relationship. She appeared in the Saint-Martin local court last week for violence against a minor. As part of the procedure, the minor victim was accompanied by an ad hoc administrator to whom she confessed to having partly lied to the gendarmes.

The mother lives with her daughter in Quartier d'Orléans in a place that she does not rent because “no one knows the owner”. Questioned, the judges asked if the house still has water and electricity. She replies no.

His victim daughter is educated in part Dutch because she does not speak French. She was heard by the children's aid services (ASE) but the follow-up was interrupted because they are waiting for an interpreter in English to continue the social investigation.

"We are in a situation of social misery", comments the deputy prosecutor who requires a simple parenthood internship.  "I accept all the help you can give me," ND told the court before it adjourns the hearing to go and deliberate. Finally, the judges handed down a suspended fine of 500 euros. (soualigapost.com)
