World AIDS Day 2018: Encourage everyone to know their HIV status

0

This year, December 1, which will mark the thirtieth edition of World AIDS Day, the theme chosen will be “Know your status”.

Since 1988, considerable progress has been made in the AIDS response, and today three in four people living with HIV know their status.

However, there is still a long way to go, as the latest UNAIDS report shows, including reaching people with HIV who do not know their status and making sure they are referred to care services. and quality prevention.

In Guadeloupe, as in Guyana, the rate of new HIV infections and the percentage of people who are unaware of their infection are higher than in all regions of France. It is estimated that nearly a third of people living with HIV in Guadeloupe are not diagnosed and do not know they have HIV.

The good news is that there are many new ways to expand access to HIV testing. Self-testing, community-based testing, and multiple testing are all ways to help people find out about their HIV status.

In this regard, each person has the possibility of carrying out free STI screening tests on the premises of the AIDES Association or in the CEGIDD (Center Hospitalier et Center de Santé Les Liaisons Dangereuses)
