In accordance with the circular of May 4, 2018 of the National Committee for the Memory and History of Slavery and according to the law n ° 2017-256 of February 28, 2017 of programming relating to real equality overseas, it is offered the possibility to commemorate the abolition of slavery in Saint-Martin on May 28.

By letter of May 16, 2018, addressed to Mrs. Préfète Anne LAUBIES, the Collectivity confirmed its wish to celebrate the abolition of slavery in Saint-Martin on May 28, to be henceforth in "all consistency with history" .

Consequently, the prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin informs that the date of commemoration of the abolition of slavery is fixed at May 28, 2018. The provisions of Article L. 3422-2 of the labor code will apply for this selected date, May 28, 2018 being considered as a public holiday.
