Global satellite internet: promising first results

0

Starlink, one of Elon Musk's companies, aims to build a global Internet network thanks to a constellation of several thousand satellites in low orbit at 400 km.

So far, 600 micro relay satellites have been put into orbit around the earth out of the 42000 planned for the future and the first test results are quite honorable.

For the moment, we obtain a downward speed (to download) of 60 Mbits / s and an upward flow (to send a file) of 17 Mbits / s which is already enormous. Regarding the latency (the response time), it oscillates between 31 and 94 ms.

Elon Musk wants to offer downlink speeds of up to 1Gbits / s when the entire network is set up with a latency of 20ms.

Revolutionary in areas without internet

Despite everything, these initial data are encouraging. First, in areas with a poorly developed network infrastructure (which will be a priority), having Internet access is already remarkable; and at such speeds, already superior to some wired connections, it is almost a miracle.

So thanks to this genius idea, high speed internet will be available in any corner of the globe, even in the middle of the Sahara.
