He was sentenced to two years in prison, she to one year for theft, violence with the use of a weapon and concealment of property. The trial took place in early May in Saint-Martin but the couple did not appear at the hearing.
The young man was transferred the same day to prison in Guadeloupe. As for the young woman, she first had to be presented to a judge in Guadeloupe for administrative reasons. She was transferred the day after her arrest in Guadeloupe. But instead of being escorted to Basse Terre, she was taken to the Baie Mahault prison center.
"I saw this big gate, I understood that it was the prison, I did not understand", she says. “When the gendarmes gave the document that had been given to them in Saint-Martin and said that they were transferring me, the people of the prison asked who I was because they had not been informed of my arrival. , they seemed surprised… No one at the prison knew who I was and why I was there… ”, she continues to relate. The situation is all the more complicated since the young woman is English-speaking and the prison officers speak only French or Creole with the exception of one.
The young woman is still imprisoned in a cell in the women's quarter. She is given a calling card so that she can make calls as required by law. She settles down in her cell and watches television.
