On Tuesday May 31, the members of the Economic, Social and Cultural Council (CESC) of Saint-Martin met to appoint the replacement for Julien Gumbs, president of the institution since 2019.
The board of directors elected Ida Zin-Ka-Ieu as the new president of the CESC, after a first-past-the-post ballot. The only declared candidate in this election, Ida Zin-Ka-Ieu obtained 18 votes in favor and 1 blank vote.
The new President of the CESC, in her speech of thanks, “placed this term of office under the sign of collaboration, understanding, the collective at the service of the territory. She also gave the main axes of the projects that the CESC could carry out, as an opinion to be issued, such as the "development of aquaculture, traffic, land and sea transport, raising public awareness of tourism and reception”.
Ida Zin-Ka-Ieu especially insisted in favor of a strong visibility of the CESC with the general public. Finally, she did not fail to recall the importance of participatory governance within the CESC.
An advisory body to the Territorial Council, "the CESC can issue opinions on its own initiative on any economic and social question of interest to the cultural future of Saint-Martin, such as education or the living environment, as well as on the action and the projects of public establishments or organizations or semi-public companies which intervene in this field” as provided for in the organic law.

Ida Zin-Ka-Ieu has been contributing to territorial dynamism and vitality for almost 20 years. Mother of two young adult daughters, she is a seasoned Serial Business Manager.
After studying in Paris specializing in tourism, Ida Zin-Ka-Ieu invested the first part of her career in the luxury tourism industry before returning to her native island; the desire to create favorable conditions for the influence, in particular economic, of its territory of birth pegged to the body.
Since 2007, she has held elected office but since 2012 has distinguished herself particularly through citizen action.
