FOOTBALL / EURO 2016: The “Blues” received at the Palais de l'Elysée

The players of the France team and their families arrived at the Elysée Palace around 13 p.m. yesterday to have lunch with the President of the Republic.

It could have been a huge celebration, it will remain as a simple courtesy visit to the President of the Republic. After the defeat in the final, the Blues and their families went to the Palais de l'Elysée to meet François Hollande, who invited them to lunch as usual, in the days following a final.

The players, dressed in blue suits and white shirts, arrived around 13 p.m. Despite some fleeting smiles, the disappointment of having lost in the final was palpable. François Hollande would even have proposed this Monday morning to the Blues not to come if they felt tired or if they wanted to quickly turn the page of this lost final, but the Blues were anxious to be present.

After each shaking the President's hand (except Koscielny who allowed himself to kiss him because he knows François Hollande well, the Head of State having been the mayor of Tulle where the French defender was born), the Blues, preceded by their coach Didier Deschamps and their president Noël Le Graët, posed for a minute for the souvenir photo, and finally took the direction of the Elysée gardens.

Leaving around 15 p.m., the Blues stayed for ten minutes at the entrance to the Elysée Palace in order to respond to requests from fans who came in droves to thank them for their journey in the competition. _AF
