Festival of Endemic Animals: The opportunity to discover the local fauna at the Sint-Maarten Zoo!

0

More than 400 people were present, last Sunday, at the Sint-Maarten Zoo, on the occasion of the 3rd edition of the Endemic Animals Festival.

"We were delighted with the participation rate and the enthusiasm that this 3rd edition aroused", underlines Jenn Yerkes, the President of the Association "Les Fruits de Mer".

The Festival's Endemic Animal Discovery Station presented live reptiles, insects and crustaceans found only on Saint-Martin or in the Caribbean, with panels explaining the origins and importance of these particular species. Experts on local wildlife were on hand to share fascinating facts and answer various questions from the public.

At the station, participants took a list of over 20 local species that can be seen in the wild on the zoo grounds and then participated in a self-guided walk of native wildlife: a series of ten permanent panels created and installed last March indeed tells the story of the native fauna of Saint-Martin, focusing on the species that live at the Zoo in their natural space. _AF
