Exotic Fauna: An unknown caterpillar detected in palm kernels multiplying from a nursery in Saint-Barthélemy

The Territorial Environment Agency (ATE) was notified immediately and was able to identify him.

This is the Acharia Stimulea, a species native to the eastern United States and Central America, known to be polyphagous (feeding on many species) and equipped with stinging hairs that deliver an irritating venom that can cause nausea in some people. This species is unknown in the Lesser Antilles. Plants occupied by caterpillars were quickly treated.

Although they are very pretty, these small species can quickly become invasive because they have no natural predators locally.
