Sint Maarten police are currently investigating a traffic accident involving the Minister of Housing, Regional Planning, Environment and Infrastructures (VROMI) who, in his company car, crashed into a minibus . The accident took place Thursday, September 6 at around 5:45 am on LB Scot road.
There were five passengers on the bus at the time of the accident. The injured in the collision were transported to the Sint Maarten medical center. According to information made available by the hospital, they were all able to return home after being examined. “The nature of their injuries is unknown,” Sint Maarten police said.
The minister was arrested at 05:50 a.m. on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. What is considered a crime in Sint Maarten. After being questioned by the interim prosecutor, the suspect, who was able to speak with his lawyer, remained in detention to allow the investigation to continue. He was then released by order of the prosecutor.
