The 6th edition of the “Faces of Saint-Martin” portrait photography competition closed on Wednesday January 24 at the town hall, under the leadership of territorial councilor Valérie Damaseau, in charge of Culture, and in presence of the two photographers honored this year, Steph Déziles and Alvin Prescod.

This year, the Culture Commission and the Department of Cultural Action of the Community have chosen the theme of intergenerational family ties “Family Faces” in order to highlight these assets through art and to strengthen actions promoting the family base. , a strong identity in the Antilles and in Saint-Martin in particular. For this 6th edition of which we once again salute the committed work of Carole Tondu in charge of this cultural project, only two photographers participated in the competition but the images of Steph Déziles, for whom this is the fourth participation, and Alvin Prescod, who is participating for the first time, are no less successful. Their magnificent photos are displayed in large format on the walls of public buildings in Marigot: 15 black and white photos measuring 3,5 by 4 meters, some of which have been duplicated, now hang in the capital and surrounding areas over time. , sun and bad weather. The artistic and ephemeral concept “Faces of Saint-Martin” inspired by the artist JR has become over the years a significant event for Saint-Martin culture, the relevant services of the Community are already working on the next edition of the competition with a original theme in order to attract more participants. Valérie Damaseau also took advantage of the awards ceremony to convey this important message: “We are using this edition to call on all photographers in this region to participate, we are questioning ourselves internally in view of the few of participations during this 6th edition, in order to assess the blockages" and allow the competition to regain its former solicitation. Faces of Saint-Martin has evolved over the years, becoming a true cultural tradition and exploring the richness of local diversity through the eye of the photographer. Saint-Martin is full of experienced and budding artists and this competition is the perfect opportunity to highlight them. The local press is also counting on Natson, a very talented photographer at the COM, to be one of the winners of the 7th edition... Congratulations again to Steph Déziles and Alvin Prescod for giving life to this 6th edition which pays tribute to the beauty of the Saint-Martin family. _VX
