Sargassum expedition: long-awaited results

0

The Sargassum expedition, between Cayenne and Pointe-à-Pitre, ended last Thursday. On board the oceanographic vessel Antéa, scientists from the MIO (Mediterranean Institute of Oceanography) have collected precious data in order to understand the processes behind the proliferation of brown algae. The samples will be analyzed in the laboratory. Not all are conditioned in the same way, specifies the crew's logbook. We find in particular frozen samples and others preserved in formalin to study taxonomy or in alcohol for genetic studies and DNA conservation. As a reminder, the Nova Blue environment bulletins provide information on the progress of the schools of algae that have invaded a large part of our island. _EH
