The Collectivity of Saint-Martin, which began collecting Sargassum algae on Saturday, April 14, is continuing its cleaning actions.

After the bay of Cul de Sac where the removal of algae is organized regularly, the service providers of the community, have now started cleaning the beach of Orient Bay, strongly impacted, especially on the North side at the level of the old hotel. Mont Vernon. The cleaning teams will follow up very soon with Galion Bay and Lucas Bay at Oyster-Pond, where there too, many algae have been stranded in recent days.

The State having released the sum of 3 million euros for the collection of these polluting algae in the Antilles islands (the Guadeloupe archipelago - Martinique - St Barth - St Martin), the Collectivity will use the funds which it will be allocated to strengthening its resources through the acquisition of mechanized equipment for the collection of algae and the establishment of a new "green brigade".

The association A-SIS Service, partner of this integration project, will thus put 25 young crossing guards at the service of collecting Sargassum algae on the beaches of the community.

At this stage, the analyzes of the Regional Health Agency (ARS) did not identify any danger for the population. The level of hydrogen sulfide is very low, even zero, in the impacted berries, despite the occasional presence of a strong odor.
