Environment: The Community continues cleaning up the beaches after Irma

0

The community is currently working to clean up the beaches for which it is responsible. This post cyclone Irma cleaning is provided by the EME integration company, which won the public contract to clean the beaches of the Collectivity.

The beaches of Friar's Bay, Galisbay, Galion, Grand-Case, are cleaned of large bulky items and waste still present.

In the case of Sargassum algae which is beginning to wash up on our coast, the community has started cleaning up Cul de Sac Bay, which was the most affected part of the coast in recent days. The SMTT company intervened on Tuesday, April 17, for a complete cleaning of the site.

The pier area, as well as the adjoining car park, were cleaned of bulky items transported by Irma (waste - vehicle carcasses, etc.). The objective was to rehabilitate this natural site for the organization of Fish Day on Sunday, May 6, and to clean up access to the pier, the Pinel islet having just reopened. The Collectivity also plans to repair before the next season the reception fuel for smugglers.

In order to compensate for the massive arrival of Sargassum algae, as has been the case in Guadeloupe in recent weeks, the community has signed a contract with the company SAS Services for the collection of algae from all of the affected beaches.

The beaches of Cul de Sac, Orient Bay and Oyster-Pond will be cleaned by 25 green crossing guards recruited by the company.
