Last Thursday and Friday the rector of Academy of Guadeloupe was in St-Martin where he notably signed  two partnership agreements, one for the establishment of CHAM at Soualiga college, and the other for the provision of digital resources, by the Bibliothèque sans frontières, to schools in Saint-Martin. Friday morning, he was at Mont des Accords college where, in the presence of President Daniel Gibbs, the college was inaugurated, following reconstruction work.

The speeches were preceded by the intervention of Thierry Gombs, Deputy Director General of the Human Development Pole at the Collectivity, who gave a historical reminder of the creation of the college and of certain people, teachers or pupils, who attended it.

Rector Fourar announced a 3,5% drop in school demography in the 1er degree, but offset by an increase of 4,5% in the 2nd degree. Despite this drop in primary education, all the jobs of school teachers are maintained, and the average of pupils in each class will be around 20. "Favorable conditions to reinforce learning in primary education", according to the Rector .

In 2e degree, “the Minister was sensitive to our request for special attention which must be paid to Saint-Martin. It has granted, in the context of the abolition of posts in the second degree in Guadeloupe and elsewhere, five additional budgetary posts, two teaching posts for the vocational high school, two teaching posts for the general and technological secondary school, and one Attaché post for the National Education Service, in order to deploy local human resources management ”. In addition, the rector has assigned, using the resources of the academic region, a position of digital manager in order to strengthen administrative management. While affirming that "it is thanks to the contribution of all, that we can approach this back to school serenely and with confidence".

14,3 million invested in schools

During his speech, President Gibbs gave the floor to Suzelle Karam, Principal of Mont des Accords College, who thanked the teachers for their conduct and their investment after the passage of Cyclone Irma. "The work that has been carried out at the college is major work" underlined the President, since almost 4 million euros have been invested for a complete rehabilitation. While recalling that after cyclone Irma, the Collectivity had to act "with discernment, patience and pragmatism (...) Today, we have concrete and reassuring results". If there have been “dysfunctions, delays, setbacks, very sensitive situations, we have put our hearts into it because the reconstruction of schools has always been, and still is, one of our greatest priorities ”. The work done during the long holidays "was considerable", since nearly 7 million euros were invested by the Com between June and the end of August. The second phase of the works ended with the month of August and 14,3 million euros were invested in this work; 2,4 million for the repair of establishments in the 1er degree and 11,9 million for the 2e degree. "The hardest part is behind us, the goal now is to work for the success of our students," concluded President Gibbs. _RM
