Many people were waiting for it, it's now done: the "Certificate of Aptitude in Small Fishing Command" (CACPP) training for the professionalization of Saint-Martin fishermen started this Monday, November 28th.

No less than nine fishermen follow the course, including eight men and one woman, Marie Page, who confided to us that she is passionate about fishing, which she has practiced with her father since her earliest childhood.

A project carried out brilliantly by Fabiola Rioual, the 306-hour Petite Pêche training will take place in two stages: from November 28 to December 22, 2022 at Koolitus Formation at Concordia with a cross-disciplinary module and a specific refresher course, and from January 9 to 7 February 2023 for the specific CACPP modules and the final exam which will take place in Martinique, at the Maritime and Aquaculture Professional Training School (EFPMA) which was selected during the call for tenders. Mirella Mérault, treasurer of EFPMA and herself a fisherman, was present at the start, as well as the director Charles Henry and the president of EFPMA, Guy-Marc Sufrin, who invited the nine future trainees to take this opportunity to develop their activity via subsidies and to get up and running thanks to the training approvals for the sailing profession offered by the EFPMA. With 17 declared seafarers and around twenty carrying out an informal activity in Saint-Martin, the files of the fishing sector and the development of the blue economy are a priority for the Collectivity represented on Monday by the 3rd Vice-President Dominique Démocrite- Louisy and Senator Annick Pétrus. Supported by the European Social Fund in partnership with the European Union, Pôle Emploi, CCISM, Direction de la mer, DEETS and the Saint-Martin fishermen's union, this training will allow the nine registered participants to benefit from a general-purpose certification. to fully and legally exercise their profession, with the sharing of the know-how of 19 trainers including local actors such as Vanion Hodge, president of the association of fishermen-fishermen of Saint-Martin and fisherman for 20 years. _VX
