0

During a press conference held at the Collège du Mont des Accords, officials announced the launch of the Educational City which will be active from next September.

A great first in the territory of Saint Martin, the Educational City is a joint project between the Rectorate, the Prefecture and the Collectivity following the call for projects from the National Agency for Territorial Cohesion. To present this device which aims to intensify the educational care of children from the age of three and young people up to the age of 25: Michel Sanz, head of the national education service of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin and assistant to the rector of the Guadeloupe Academy, Vincent Berton, delegate prefect to the representative of the State in the communities of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin and Louis Mussington, president of the Community. The three men were accompanied by David Desiage, principal of the Collège du Mont des Accords and elected leader of the educational city. Kathy Africa, an English teacher at the Collège du Mont des Accords, will act as operational manager of the project in order to coordinate the actions. An Educational City is a program that creates an alliance between all the educational actors working in the priority neighborhoods of the city policy, namely the services of the State, the Community, associations, parents, children and young people. Having obtained the label of excellence within the framework of the Interministerial Committee for the City at the end of last January, the Educational City of Saint Martin is unprecedented in its kind with educational actions before, during, around and after the school environment.

The ambition and structuring of the project are based on the specific needs of the territory in terms of crime prevention, support for early childhood and parenthood, access to cultural and sports facilities and digital inclusion. Concretely, the Educational City of Saint-Martin will be carried by the Mont-des-Accords college and its scope of action includes the priority district of Sandy Ground, the students of the vocational high school as well as young people under 25 from Concordia, Agrément, St-James, Hameau-du-Pont, Grand-Case and Cul-de-Sac, i.e. nearly 10 children and young people, whether in school or not. The system will benefit from the State's own financial resources with an allocation of €000 per year over a period of three years, i.e. €300.000 in total. Three axes draw the directional line of the Educational City: to reinforce the role of the school, to promote the educational continuity and to open the field of possibilities. An agreement summarizing the objectives and commitments with an evaluation protocol was signed between the key players in the Educational City. The actions will be validated by the steering committee which will meet on August 900.000th. _VX
