EDUCATION: The deaf dialogue…

0

If you have followed the twists and turns of this new school year, you know that the days are long for certain parents and teachers who have mobilized against the reception conditions of students since the start of the school year.

Yesterday morning, in front of the school complex, several dozen students, parents and teachers came to block access to the school to protest not only the reception conditions of the students but also the reception they received. has been reserved by the Collectivity and the Rectorate. Monday, after having noted Sunday at the end of the day, that the installation of the prefabricated of the school city was not finished, the collective had gathered in front of the Community in Marigot from 7 am, all dressed in black as a sign of mourning, in the hope of meeting Mrs. Petrus, 3rd vice president. Hope fulfilled since the meeting took place. Unfortunately, the collective request is refused by the Collectivity. No time to hang around, the demonstrators go to the Rectorate where the answer is the same. We do not commit to the collective, the reception of students will not be suspended. The argument is simple. On the Community side, we explain that the calendar cannot be changed because we cannot go faster and we are not competent in the field. On the Rectorate side, we did our best to compensate for the delays in the reconstruction. Faced with this game of ping pong, a decision was made to block the entrance to the school complex on Tuesday morning. During this rally, we can not help but notice that the demonstrators are more numerous than the previous days. Parents, teachers and students try to explain to those who do not understand the movement why they can no longer accept such reception conditions. Lynn Taylor, representative of parents, explains that the action is complicated. Of course, it is difficult to see children still losing teaching time, but the danger seems very real in certain establishments and if nothing is done, how long will we be in reconstruction? How long to find perfectly normal reception conditions? To understand today's anger and the motivation that seems late, for some, we have to go back to June. In June, the movement was in its infancy, questions were already being asked. After a long and painful year for everyone and above all for the students, he had been assured that the return to school would take place in dignified conditions, at least in terms of safety. The collective does not request the completion of all work, per minute. The request relates to student safety and comfort. You just have to question the students to find out. Not all of them are supporters of the movement for fear of losing even more time on an already amputated course, but all tell of similar days, identical concerns. Canteen problems, no CDI, no fencing, not enough school buses, it sometimes rains in the rooms, severe lack of educational material ... A simple visit is enough to convince. There is indeed a problem with this back to school. We could describe the events to you minute by minute. We could write long paragraphs on the state of the establishments and the contempt of some towards a movement made up of children and adults concerned more than ever with the future of the island but the images are good more meaningful. This school year begins with the sign of mourning. Mourning for promises but also for some, mourning for their hopes. Hope they harbored for the youth of Saint-Martin. _NB
