New year, new start. Christine Gangloff-Ziegler, rector of the Guadeloupe academy, was in Saint-Martin on Tuesday, August 30, to wish the teaching staff a good start to school. Directors, teachers, social workers and members of the National Education met at the CCISM. The students found the school benches this Thursday 1er September.
“It is important to move. Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy are part of the academic region”, assures Christine Gangloff-Ziegler, rector of the Guadeloupe academy. "It's a way of showing schools my personal commitment to the future and to academic success."
During a direct exchange, this Tuesday, August 30, with the academic body, Christine Gangloff-Ziegler emphasized collective success, cohesion and commitment to equal opportunities. Reminding the educational body of the rules of ethics, but also asking staff to express their ideas for the benefit of students. Several points raised stand out, such as bilingualism, professional orientation, international or openness to culture.
BILINGUALISM
Important file in Saint-Martin, the rector Christine Gangloff-Ziegler speaks of a request made by the Collectivity of Saint-Martin to create a convention around the subject. “There is the will to go further and to draw inspiration from other conventions such as that in Alsace where education is bilingual, German-French, or even trilingual with the learning of English.
PROFESSIONAL ORIENTATION
This is one of the issues raised as much by Harry Christophe, the new vice-rector, as by the rector. This is the professional orientation of young Saint-Martin students. The teams want to provide them with better information so that they have an overall view of the various possible professions.
LOOKING INTERNATIONALLY
“For us, the international is nearby and it is an exceptional opportunity. Saint-Martin is also international. It is important to increase students' knowledge of neighbours. For this, the establishments on the island can carry out projects like Erasmus”, affirmed Christine Gangloff-Ziegler.
ACCESS TO CULTURE
Known in mainland France, the Culture Pass is one of the new features that the education department hopes to implement. This is a device for access to cultural activities for young people between 15 and 18 years old. If in Saint-Martin it seems complicated to benefit from it given the lack of cultural infrastructure, the National Education services hope to develop cultural activities in each class.
“We have classes with arranged hours for music or theater,” assured the rector. “The goal is to increase in power by increasing the activities and the classes that benefit from it”. _pc
