Education: The first scheduled music class in St-Martin

1

Twenty 5th graders, educated at Robert Weinum, benefit from flexible hours to learn music. "In addition to the usual lessons, they have five hours of music per week," says Jean-Luc Frigo, the principal of the college.

On Monday morning, the class is divided into two groups for music theory and orchestra lessons. Then the students continue the afternoon on instrumental practice. The next day they have two hours of musical education in the morning and choral singing in the afternoon.

Thirteen of them are learning to play an instrument at Concordia at Mr. Maxwell's Music Workshop school of music. "An agreement has been signed with the music school and the COM over three years" specifies Evelyne Flemming, project manager at IA-DAASEN in the North Islands and coordinator of the project. Christian Amour, retired music teacher teaches the piano, Chang Chiatine, music teacher at the college in Quartier d'Orléans teaches singing lessons, while Antoine Grandemange, music teacher at Soualiga college teaches the trombone and the trumpet.

This project was to see the light of day in the 2017-2018 school year at Soualiga college but had to be postponed following the passage of Irma and the destruction of the establishment. It is therefore finally the pupils of the 5th 3 of the school complex who wipe the plasters of this CHAM (classes with arranged musical schedules) operational only since last January. They were spotted by their music education teacher Antoine Grandemange last year: "I didn't necessarily choose musicians but children who had an interest in music and who, in my opinion, had skills". It was therefore not on their results in other subjects or their behavior that they were chosen, but on their ability to listen and play music, as well as on their motivation.

"It is not the first CHAM of the academy but it is the first in Saint-Martin" underlined Michel Sanz, the IA-DAASEN of the northern islands. He adds that four small studios and two music rooms are already planned in the future college of 900.

    Hello Madam,

As part of a DEJEPS project for which I have chosen as the subject of the project:
the musical and poetic heritage on the island of sxm, and artistic support in the development of the child,

I would like to bring together around the association the school of life, partners including music schools and its musicians, the cultural heritage service of the community, the Caf which sets up, workshops for families, as well as that parents and students interested in this.

In this project I launched a questionnaire on social networks with questions on the values of musical culture, proposals around musical culture, musical events, communication. ..

To date, I have no contacts except Christophe Hennock from the archives service of the community, and I am also awaiting a return from the LAMECA media library in Guadeloupe, concerning the exact place of music within vanished civilizations. .

it is difficult to create a network that would allow me to form a team.

I would therefore like to contact the education service mr M. Sans, Mickael from music workhop, the island's cultural heritage community service ... in order to lead, structure a real project on the musical heritage of Saint-Martin in from the first inhabitants of the island, the Ciboney, to mixed, even contemporary music.

I would really like to share this project with people interested in bringing Native American musicochorephia to the fore.

I appeal to you to help me in these steps, in particular for the constitution of a team of professional actors sensitive to this action project for the island of saint-martin.
    Do you have direct contacts?

    Thank you for your help.
    Sincerely
    Fabienne Marchisella / Lozano.
