Delinquency in the Northern Islands: Overall encouraging results for 2016!

0

Each beginning of the year, the authorities of the French side invite the local media to a press point to announce and comment on the figures of the delinquency observed during the past year. The results are encouraging, with a notable drop of 12% in general delinquency.

In the presence of the Prefect of the Northern Islands, Anne Laubies, the Prosecutor of the Republic of Basse-Terre, Samuel Finielz, Vice-Prosecutors, Yves Paillard and Michaël Ohayon, the Head of Squadron of the Northern Islands, Sébastien Manzoni, Captains, Régis Turlan Arto, Emmanuel Maignan and PAF captain Sylvain Nicolas, held a press conference in the Prefecture to reveal the official figures for delinquency observed in 2016.

For comparison on general delinquency, 3 incidents were committed in 400 against 2015 in 2, a significant drop of 970% (note: the presence of 2016 additional gendarmes stationed in Saint-Martin since 12 is not not unrelated to these good results).

Armed robberies are also on the decrease, 114 made in 2015 compared to 51 in 2016.

Damage to property and physical violence are also down, by -22% and -67% respectively, as well as car thefts and burglaries, -20,53% and -17%.

On the other hand, the figures communicated by the competent authorities on road crime in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy are not good at all!

Indeed, during the year 2016, three motorists in Saint-Martin and four in Saint-Barthélemy lost their lives on the road by not respecting basic safety rules.

In this regard, the Prefect, Anne Laubies and the Squadron Leader, Sébastien Manzoni, expressed concern about the increase in alcoholism and the use of drugs by an increasing number of road users. Reinforced controls will be operated to stop this scourge. A word to the wise ...

Finally, on the side of the Border Police (PAF), represented by the captain, Sylvain Nicolas, other figures were communicated to us, namely 498 foreigners arrested, 17 procedures for smuggling migrants, 16 procedures for illegal work and 38 procedures for document fraud. _AF
