20% increase in delinquency in August compared to July

The number of crimes and offenses committed in Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth increased by 20% in August compared to July: 275 incidents were recorded by the gendarmerie company of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barth against 229 the last month (+46) according to figures published by the Ministry of the Interior. 

This increase is mainly due to an upsurge in armed robberies and vehicle thefts. 8 additional VAMAs were committed in August compared to July, making a total of 15. A year ago at the same time, 6 armed robberies were recorded.  Regarding vehicle thefts, 45 incidents were recorded in August by the company, including 32 thefts of cars (+3) and 13 of two wheels (+4). Since the beginning of the year, the biggest  number of stolen scooters was recorded in August. In addition, attacks on dignity and personality are also on the rise with 8 facts reported against 3 in July, as well as home invasions (4 against 1) and kidnappings: 5 in August (against 2 in July) that is as much as during the last two years.
