Commercial flights to and from the USA are expected to reopen on August 1; this was announced on Tuesday on the website of the St Maarten Tourist Bureau. The same day, the Johns Hopkins Institute announced a new record of daily infections in the United States with 60000 infections recorded on Tuesday.

Departing passengers generate 60% of airport revenue and 60% of these passengers are stay tourists.

According to the 2013 and 2014 annual activity reports *, two-thirds of revenues come from airport and passenger taxes. In 2014, these amounted to $ 39,48 million, they were 2,5 times greater than personnel costs, which represented a third of the establishment's total expenses.

Note that personnel costs (of the 268 employees) amounted to $ 15,8 million in 2014, including 11,24 million salaries.

The same report indicates that "passengers departing from Juliana represent the most important of the three categories of passengers (departure, arrival, transit, note) because they pay taxes which constitute 60% of the airport's revenues". 834902 departing passengers were registered in 2014, an average of 69575 per month. 60% of these departing passengers were tourists, the rest were residents.
