Culture: Presentation of the novel "BIG ROCK" written by Robert Romney

Former representative of the Rector of Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy from 2007 to 2010, Robert Romney has just released a new novel entitled "Big Rock".

Born in Saint Martin, Robert Romney was educated in Guadeloupe and Martinique where he passed the Literary Baccalaureate. He successfully obtained a bachelor's degree, a master's degree in English (English and American literature option) at the University of Bordeaux, and then Capès to be tenured as an English teacher in high school.

Associate Professor, he was able to present and obtain the assistance of IAIPR Inspectors (Academy Inspectors, Regional Pedagogical Inspectors).

As an IAIPR of English, he was in charge of the two Academies of Guadeloupe and Martinique for 14 years before being appointed Representative of the Rector of Saint Martin and Saint Barthélemy from 2007 to 2010.

Robert Romney is Inspector of Honorary Academy, Knight of the Order  National of Merit and Officer of the Academic Palms.

The different works  by Robert Romney:

• Saint Martin Talk, a compilation of vocabulary, expressions and proverbs used in Saint Martin; this work has become a reference when we speak of "Creole English" in the English-speaking Caribbean.

• From Saint Martin Talk to Standard English, a book that invites the Saint Martin speaker to better understand his vernacular.

•  Saint-Martin-de-TOURS, bilingual booklet,

• Reverend  Father Verstappen, the biograhy of a Dutch parish priest who served the parish for a quarter of a century.

• BIG  ROCK, The king of the Rock, is his first novel written in English. Although it is located in Saint Martin, this novel is suitable for all kinds of public and  a Caribbean dimension, through the themes mentioned,  share the literary qualities of the author who by impressionist touches describes the inhabitants of the island, the sea and the fishermen. This novel describes the idyllic life of adolescents in a tight-knit society, where violence had no place,  the joy of living was not an empty word. In the background, we are witnessing a magnificent love story.

Robert Romney strives to make his native island known abroad; speak it Saint-Martinois present  in the novel reminds us that the author seeks above all the recognition of this regional language in the same way as Catalan, Basque and Creole. This novel could appear as a textbook. Good reading ! _AF
