The association of the Indians of Saint Martin (AISM) organized on Sunday March 18 the traditional festival of colors (Holi) on the beach of Happy Bay. A festive and family event of Hindu origin which aims to celebrate the arrival of spring by throwing pigments of color on each other in a good-natured spirit.
This year again the Holi Fest was very successful. The association estimates the number of participants at 1500. “We had sold 1200 tickets, and even if we had insisted for two weeks that everyone bought their place in advance for logistical reasons, 200 to 250 more people showed up at the entrance, to which we can add those that have passed through Friar's Bay ”reports Peter Sadarangani, President of IALA.
The party reached its peak at 15 p.m. when the majority of participants gathered in front of the stage for a release of colors synchronized in the general euphoria. Peter Sadarangani is also satisfied with this 2018 edition. “After Cyclone Irma, we all had very difficult moments. Despite the sadness, the people are looking for moments of joy. It was an opportunity to let go of all the stress and unite, and that's what Holi's goal is, ”he says. Each color has a meaning: green for harmony, orange for optimism, blue for vitality and red for joy and love. In India, during the festival of colors, all castes mingle exceptionally. In Saint-Martin, Holi succeeds each year in bringing together the different communities of the island in a moment of sharing and general good humor.
