Hotels, restaurants, bars, tour operators… What future awaits them in view of the summer holidays and in the midst of the coronavirus epidemic? Édouard Philippe yesterday unveiled a “massive” tourism recovery plan, representing “a commitment of 18 billion euros for public finances”.

The solidarity fund open until the end of 2020

The solidarity fund will remain open to the hotel, catering and tourism sectors and will be extended until the end of 2020. The aid that will be paid may go up to 10 euros. "The loan arrangements will be strengthened," added Edouard Philippe, with a ceiling that could reach the turnover of the best three months of the previous year. Access to partial unemployment will also be extended at least until September, added the Prime Minister.  The banks are also committed to postponing the monthly payments of the companies over 12 months and no longer six this as so far. Employee and employer contributions will be exempt as long as the closure of their establishments lasts. Finally, the government undertakes to grant a credit of 20% on the contributions due since the beginning of the year, before the coronavirus crisis.

A 1,3 billion euro recovery plan

Edouard Philippe also announced a 1,3 billion euro recovery plan for the post-crisis, which will be financed by Caisse des Dépôts and BPI France. A sum which will be supplemented by private investments to reach a total of 7 billion euros.

The restaurant ticket ceiling doubled

"We are going to double the ceiling for restaurant tickets and make them work at weekends," also detailed Edouard Philippe. This ceiling will be raised from 19 to 38 euros, said the Prime Minister.

The reopening of cafes and restaurants planned for June 2 in the green departments

For cafes and restaurants, the reopening date will be set the week of May 25. A reopening of cafes and restaurants "could be envisaged" from June 2 in departments classified as green, announced Edouard Philippe.

The possibility of booking summer holidays in mainland France and overseas

"The French will be able to go on vacation in France and overseas in July and August," assured Edouard Philippe yesterday, subject however to "possible very localized restrictions" depending on the evolution of the coronavirus epidemic. "The French can take their reservations," further encouraged the Prime Minister, stressing that "the players in tourism, the hotel industry, are committed to ensuring that they are fully reimbursed in the event that the evolution of the epidemic would not make it possible to go on vacation ”.
