Official creation of the green brigade of Saint-Martin

At the Hôtel de la Collectivité, twenty people signed their contract yesterday to join the green brigade, created specially to collect sargassum, in the presence of representatives of Pôle Emploi, the Symphorien center for integration, the ARS, the president Aline Hanson and prefect Anne Laubies. The algae collection will begin at the end of the month, after the training of the crossing guards.

It is the Symphorien integration center, chosen on the basis of a call for tenders, which will supervise the crossing guards, who were all job seekers. The latter will be responsible for “collecting the sargassum under the authority of the Collectivity and the association. They will also have the vocation of ambassadors for the environment and will therefore work on other subjects ”, specified the prefect during this ceremony. This subsidized contract, which is renewable for one year, is 90% funded by the State and the Environment and Energy Management Agency (ADEME) at 10%, corresponding to 92.000 euros. "We tried to apprehend the Sargassum phenomenon from the start, we now see that it is accentuated especially in Cul-de-Sac," noted President Hanson. The ARS will offer brigadiers technical support: they will be equipped with sensors enabling them to know the hydrogen sulfide level. “Measurements have been made every week since week 25 on the Northern Islands. We are more particularly interested in areas close to homes, ”explained the ARS regional delegate Pascal Godefroy. As a reminder, the State is looking at the same time for lasting solutions to combat this phenomenon. Companies interested in this ADEME call for projects are requested to contact the prefecture until next October 12.
