Covid-19: For Victorin Lurel, "we used vaccination to fight against the State"

During the report of the joint information mission on the effects of containment measures in the Senate, several personalities from overseas (inspectors general of social affairs, medical advisor at the National Performance Support Agency, Iedom , etc.) were auditioned among which the Guadeloupe senator, Victorin Lurel. Several aspects of the crisis were discussed, including that of weak vaccination.

Victorin Lurel who "apprehends a possible fifth wave", believes that there has been a lack of communication with the population. For him, the pedagogy was not “massive” enough and denounces the impact of social networks. “There is a virtual monopoly of social networks when it comes to information. Everyone claims to be a doctor.

We have not made it into people's heads, especially in our territories, that we are going to live with this virus for a long time and that sooner or later a second mandatory vaccine will be required. We have not yet succeeded in spreading in the overseas territories the idea that the vaccine is not provisional, that it is not experimental, that it does not change the genome, that pharmacovigilance works. People are afraid of the vaccine and favor our local pharmacopoeia. (…) The problem is cultural. It seems like a detail, but the needle that plunges into the shoulder scares people! We have to take this into account, ”he told his colleagues.

Victorin Lurel further regrets that "part of the elite politicized the issue: vaccination was used to fight against the government, against the state or against colonialism". “The political class continues to write that it is of the generation of rimèd razié. When scientists declared, during a major political forum, to have discovered a preventive treatment, people ran to buy it in pharmacies… ”, he underlines. “Opposite, communication is weak, not to say non-existent.

At the national level, there is a call to be vaccinated, but no explanation is given to reassure. There are many factors behind resistance to the vaccine. It is a sociological fact that has not been grasped and that today must be dealt with as a matter of extreme urgency. (…) We did not realize the intellectual, psychological and perhaps religious resistance to the vaccine, ”he agrees. He is convinced of "the importance of resuming communication" (Soualigapost.com).
