The representative of the State attributes this sudden upsurge of cases to a relaxation of the population. “Because our indicators were good for a long time, the inhabitants felt preserved, that is my interpretation of the situation. We have observed a certain recklessness for ten days which was not the case before ”, he confided while taking the example of the stop of the wearing of masks in many small businesses. But "the pandemic is still ongoing and the virus continues to circulate on the island", underlines the ARS.
The territorial director, Paul Guibert, also warns about the situation at the Louis-Constant Fleming hospital center. Last Friday, seven patients positive for Covid-19 were taken care of in the specialized unit and yesterday morning, they were still four. “We went from zero patients to seven in one week,” notes Serge Gouteyron. Two medical evacuations to Guadeloupe were also carried out. “We must be vigilant and respect barrier gestures,” he insists, emphasizing the challenges in terms of displacement (compelling reason, etc.).
The Prefecture and the ARS strongly recommend that the population go to be vaccinated at the center specially opened in Galisbay.
