Power cut last Saturday: the origin of the problem was in Bellevue

This Saturday a new power cut affected the French part of Saint-Martin. If for the majority of the districts of the island, this cut did not last more than one hour, other districts had to wait six hours before seeing the current returning.

This Saturday, August 22, around 9 a.m., the island experienced a blackout for a few hours. “We had an incident on the network,” explains Stéphane Guichet, Deputy Head of Service for EDF in the Northern Islands. "We have launched investigations to find out the origin of this incident."

In the event of a problem on the network, a security system is put in place to protect the entire network. It is therefore necessary to relaunch the nine departures specific to the geographical areas of the island. “We are analyzing a starting point before gradually relaunching it on the network. Obviously when we find the source of the problem, it takes more time since we are investigating,”  supports the deputy.

The source of the problem was located in Bellevue where it seems a cable head would have been weakened by the heavy showers and thunderstorms the day before. “We do not know the exact origin of the problem but we are still working on it", specifies Guichet.

the currentt was delivered very quickly in certain districts with the exception of Bellevue. “We took between 20 minutes and 1h50 to restore the network depending on the neighborhoods. That of Saint James / Bellevue was not restored until around 14:50 p.m. Later in the day on Saturday, another outage occurred in Baie Nettlé where the incident was quickly resolved. "We have teams that constantly monitor the network 24 hours a day to minimize inconvenience."_pc
