0

The list of corals protected in Saint-Martin, Guadeloupe and Martinique, and the terms of their protection, was set by the decree of April 25, 2017. This document “meets France's international obligations arising from the ratification of the SPAW protocol. Aiming at the protection of several species of corals, it is taken in application of article L411-1 of the environmental code ”, according to the Department of the Environment (DEAL) of Guadeloupe. This decree protects 12 endemic coral species in the Caribbean, in addition to the 4 species annexed to the SPAW protocol. The Acroporidae, Merulinidae, Agariciidae, Incertae cedis, Meandrinidae, Mussidae and Oculinidae families benefit in particular from a ban on mutilation in their natural environment.
