In 2016, the prosecutor of Sint Maarten had made road safety one of his priorities. Numerous checks were carried out during which 5 reports were drawn up by the police and the coast guard. This represents an increase of 318%. 42 out of 7 offenses resulted in legal proceedings, the rest were simple fines to be settled. Among the most common offenses: driving without a seat belt, without a license, without insurance.

This year, the police confirm their desire with the prosecutor's office to intensify road checks. The authorities announce that these controls will be held once every three months. In addition, the police will continue to carry out border checks with the gendarmerie. (Source: www.soualigapost.com)
