The individual had stolen a scooter at gunpoint on October 31, 2017 in Marigot.

In November 2013, he steals a scooter because he needs money. This is the excuse he provided to the criminal court of Saint-Martin before which he had appeared in March 2014 for these facts. He signaled the driver of a two-wheeler to stop asking him to take him away and drove him to an isolated location in Quartier d'Orléans. Four years later, he steals a scooter again, but this time to help a friend who had "financial problems". Specifically, he denies having stolen the scooter but having bought it from an acquaintance who needed money. He bought him $ 600, the same amount he sold the two-wheeler in 2013.

JJ, 25 years old and a native of Guyana, was presented Friday morning before the court of Saint-Martin in immediate appearance after his police custody. He had been arrested Wednesday morning by the gendarmes at his mother's home in Quartier d'Orléans. He is accused of having stolen a scooter on October 31, 2017 in Marigot with the threat of a weapon. It is around 19:30 p.m. when the victim returns home and is approached by an individual with a face half hidden by a bandana. At first, she thinks it's a joke. Until the moment she sees a gun. She manages to take things from the trunk before putting the keys on the saddle. The individual fled with the scooter.

Several years later, a friend of the victim's friend saw it at Concordia. Alerted, the gendarmes will find the two-wheeler abandoned in Quartier d'Orléans. Fingerprint and DNA surveys are carried out and those of JJ are found. The gendarmes will also search his room and recover the keys to the scooter and a bandana whose color and patterns match the description of the victim. JJ explains that he bought the bandana after the fact to do the cleaning in his room.

He is also found behind his wardrobe a bullet-proof vest belonging to the customs. JJ admits buying this 300 dollar cardigan from someone on the street to protect himself after Irma. In addition to theft with the threat of a weapon, JJ is accused of concealing property.

He was also prosecuted for entering French territory when he prohibited him from coming to France.

Present at the hearing, the victim claims to "recognize 100%" the voice of his attacker. She brought a civil action and asked for 3 euros in material damage - the amount of the invoice to repair the scooter which was returned to her in poor condition - and 939 euros for the moral damage suffered.

The accused faces a sentence of fourteen years in prison for being a repeat offender. A few days after stealing the scooter in 2013, he had participated in the robbery of a snack bar in Quartier d'Orléans, which had earned him three years in prison which he served.

Vice-Prosecutor Yves Paillard requested a prison sentence of six years in prison, a permanent ban from French territory upon his release from prison and asked for a warrant.

After deliberation, the court sentenced JJ to four years in prison. A deposit warrant was also issued; JJ was therefore transferred by plane to the prison in Basse-Terre. A permanent ban from French territory has been ordered.

During his transfer, the individual tried to escape on the tarmac at Grand Case airport. He was caught by the gendarmes after jumping into the pond. A new legal procedure will be opened against him for this attempted escape.
