1

Several students in the second class of Mrs. AZEDE  at the Cité Scolaire Robert WEINUM participated in the competition entitled "The writings of  fraternity ”organized by the League for Human Rights.

The pupils had the choice to present texts, poems, drawings to their liking. The participants QUERNEL Mathis, SYLVESTER GEORGE Lianna, METURA Chakhenia, VERHELST Noela, BOUBAKEUR Saphia submitted their works to the various members of the jury in March. In the high school category, the pupil BOUBAKEUR Saphia received 1st prize for his poem entitled: A black man, a white man.

She left with her teacher in Guadeloupe on May 21, 2019 to receive her prize. Furthermore, his academic victory enabled him to be selected at the national level. We hope that she  will also shine and be the pride of our school.

Little anecdote about this poem told by Saphia:

"This adventure started from a duty to do but when I returned it, my teacher told me that I was off topic, that I had to do it again but that she kept it to submit it to the  Human Rights League competition if I agreed. Which I obviously did with joy. Some time later, Ms. AZEDE announced that I had won the first prize in this competition.  I was pleasantly surprised because I no longer thought about it at all. I think this theme allowed me  to express what I really feel about discrimination and I wrote it with my heart. "

Le poem de Saphia :

A white man, a black man

I blindfold you

I bring you in front of two men

A white man and a black man

You do not know it !

 But you will know,

You'll regret,

And you will tell me

That racism is not just blah, but a real hassle!

Now I ask you to touch the first man

You tell me "here is the nose, eyes, mouth, neck, arms, legs".

I ask you now to touch the second man,

You tell me "here is the nose, eyes, mouth, neck, arms, legs".

Without removing the blindfold I ask you "they are made the same is not it? "

You say yes!

I ask you to remove the blindfold and note that now it is only a story of color.

And I tell you:

"A black man, with black skin, with black eyes, or brown,

A white man with pink skin, blue or green eyes,

One and the other,

Have the same smile when something pleases them,

One and the other,

Will have the same tears on their cheeks if we upset them, or if we hurt them,

One and the other,

Both have a heart that allows them to exist! "

You look at me now ashamed,

You excuse yourself,

And you tell me that I am right, and that racism is not just a joke but a real hassle!
