Press release: Back-to-school allowance paid since August 17, 2021

1

The back-to-school allowance (ARS) is used to support families with low incomes. More precisely, it is part of the family benefits addressed to households with children in school. It can thus finance the purchase of school supplies. In Saint-Martin, the allowance was paid to 2 beneficiaries for 913 children.

Since August 17, the Caf has been paying the Back-to-School Allowance to approximately 32 families, which represents 215 children. The Back-to-School Allowance (Ars) is means-tested to families with modest incomes and who have children aged 43 to 474 (born between September 6, 18 and December 16, 2003 inclusive). It is modulated according to the age of the child. The amount of Ars 31 per child will be:

06-10 years: € 370,31

11-14 years: € 390,74

15-18 years: € 404,28

To benefit from Ars, 2019 resources must not exceed the following ceilings:

Number of dependent children

(2019 resource limits *)

1 child € 25

2 children € 31

3 children € 37

Per additional child + € 5

If the resources slightly exceed these ceilings, the family will receive a reduced Ars.

In 2020, 34 Guadeloupe families were able to benefit from the allowance. This involved 497 children. Concerning Saint-Martin specifically, the allowance was paid to 52 beneficiaries for 127 children. In total, the Caf paid 2 euros to benefit families.

* The resources taken into account by the Caf correspond to the amount of annual taxable income.

Recall

For 6 - 15 year olds, automatic payment. There is nothing to do if the families meet the conditions. For 16-18 year olds, families must simply confirm on caf.fr that their child is still in school, student or apprentice for the start of the 2021 school year. They will receive the Ars as soon as it is paid. No need to send a school certificate at the start of the school year. For children who will be 6 years old in 2022 and are admitted to the preparatory course (CP) at the start of the school year, parents must send a school certificate to benefit from the Ars.
