Detached court room: a project becoming a reality

The President of the Republic François Hollande had made a promise during his last visit in May 2015. The creation of the detached chamber of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy of the tribunal de grande instance of Basse-Terre is on the right track with the publication of the much awaited decree at the local level.

The decree relating to the creation of the detached chamber of Saint-Martin and Saint-Barthélemy of the tribunal de grande instance of Basse-Terre was published in the Official Journal on December 31 last. This text entered into force at the beginning of the month. It was Gérard Egron-Reverseau, vice-president of the tribunal de grande instance of Basse-Terre, in charge of the service of the magistrates' court of Saint-Martin, who was appointed president of this body by decree of December 23 last. This chamber will provide the Northern Islands with more judicial autonomy. Last July, the public prosecutor of Basse-Terre Samuel Finielz had been received by the president Aline Hanson in order to draw up an assessment of the installation on the territory of this detached room. On this occasion, the prosecutor had indicated that "Saint-Martin represented a large part of his concerns" with "38% of the criminal activity of the tribunal de grande instance of Basse-Terre". In Marigot, work should soon start on the old library, which will house the premises of this detached room.
