The Institute for Public Health Surveillance (InVS) recalls in its last bulletin that the seasonal epidemic of gastroenteritis has started since mid-December in Saint-Martin. Very regular hand washing is recommended, according to the institute.
In our territory, "the weekly number of consultations has exceeded the maximum values expected since mid-December, in weeks 51 and 52, this number was estimated at 102 and 113 respectively", we can read in the bulletin. In Saint-Barthélemy, since the beginning of last month, "the number of consultations is lower than the maximum expected values", noted the institute. Gastroenteritis is "an inflammatory infection of the digestive system" that can lead to "nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, as well as dehydration, fever, and headache (headache)" , mentions the National Institute for Prevention and Health Education (Inpes).
