Carnival: SKA, the association that returns to the roots of carnival

0

Why buy a carnival costume when you can make your own? This is what the Soualiwomen Kultural Association (SKA) offers, chaired by Laticha Stephen and created in August 2017. Mardi Gras, SKA members will paradise without feathers in a costume made from recycled objects.

For SKA, carnival is not just a parade. Making your costume is just as important. "We provide the base and then each person personalizes their costume" explain the founders. They have put together a kit which includes the fabrics, capsules and tools necessary for making the costume, but also the make-up, the meal, the insurance and the supplies before and during the parade. They propose to meet on Wednesdays and Saturdays afternoons in Quartier d'Orléans and on Sundays in Saint-Louis. Everything is calculated so that the costume is finalized within eight hours at the latest. The interest of the association is to continue to bring to life the spirit of carnival, and in the long term, to highlight its professions. (More details on www.soualigapost.com)
